About BLESS & Karlsruhe
BLESS is a fashion/design studio created in 1997 by Ines Kaag and Desiree Heiss who both studied fashion design and met as students coincidentally. From their respective bases in Berlin and Paris, they started creating a product range that does not distinguish between clothing and object, fashion design, art and life. Every collection is given its own, equal serial number and the product range varies from a de-functionalized hairbrush with real hair rather than bristles and sunglasses with fringes instead of lenses, sit alongside ready-to-wear tuxedo overalls, classical hooded jackets, and knitted boots. The USB stick with its real fur tail brings, in fact, the two worlds together. It’s an absurd object, a visual provocation, but you can use it. “Whatwasitagain”, the title of BLESS N°40, highlights the fact that their work cannot be pigeonholed. Their objects, their fashion designs, always question their own identity. With BLESS’s objects it is often impossible to recapitulate in what field their development originated. They combine all the different sides to their works in extensive installations, that explore the line separating them from a gesamtkunstwerk. The two designers escape from any calibrated definition of fashion, faithful to their initial concept, dividing and combining creation, between fashion, art, design and architecture, they engage an independent work method, which often implements collaborations and interactions with friends, customers and other contributors. Their creations are born from a particular need. The need to constantly combine the simplicity and comfort of daily life with a visionary and groundbreaking horizon.
BLESS is a project that presents ideal and artistic values by products to the public.
